Narrative
I WAS ASSIGNED AS THE TERMINAL LEAD MECH. AT APPROX XA30; THE LOGBOOK AND WORK PACK WERE GIVEN TO ME BY MGR X. MR X SAID THAT HE DEFERRED A SPECIAL CHK WITH AN ATTACHED DEFERRAL MESSAGE. AT THAT TIME I REVIEWED AND RELEASED THE WORK PACK AND LOGBOOK FOR ACFT X. I LATER LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A MAINT WRITE-UP PERTAINING TO DISCREPANCIES FOUND ON THE SPECIAL CHK. THIS MAINT WRITE-UP WAS NOT DOCUMENTED ON THE SVC CHK AND WAS NOT PART OF THE WORK PACK. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: REPORTER STATED THIS INVOLVED AN 'OUT OF SERVICE' B767-200 THAT NEEDED MAINT WORK. THE 'OPEN' MAINT WRITE-UP AGAINST THE HORIZ STAB JACKSCREW TASK CARD WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE MAINT DEFERRAL OF THE JOB CARD BY THE SUPERVISOR. REPORTER STATED WHEN HE SAW THE 'OPEN' WRITE-UP; HE THOUGHT THE WRITE-UP COULD BE VOIDED TO ALLOW FOR ACFT RELEASE; BECAUSE THE STAB JOB CARD WAS DEFERRED TO A LATER DATE AND WOULD BE REDONE. THE WRITE-UP WAS MAINT INFO ABOUT THE RESULTS OF THE STAB CHECK THAT WAS NOT COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE ACFT'S SCHEDULED DEPARTURE TIME.
