Narrative
DEP OFF OF RWY 24; ASSIGNED TEB 5 SID. CAPT CLBED TO 1750 FT ALTITUDE BEFORE REACHING 4.5 DME OFF OF THE TEB VOR. WE HAD BRIEFED IT A FEW TIMES; AND HE ASKED RIGHT BEFORE TAKE OFF. I READ IT VERBATIM OFF THE DEP PLATE. I HAD SELECTED 1500 FT IN THE ALTITUDE PRESELECT WINDOW AND EXPLAINED; SHOWED THE DEP REQUIREMENTS A COUPLE TIMES. THE DME FOR TEB WAS SELECTED ON MY SIDE. EQUIPMENT WE WERE FLYING WAS A FALCON 900EASY; WHICH CAN BE NOT SO EASY IN THE AVIONICS SIDE SOMETIMES. IT CAN KEEP THE NON FLYING PLT BUSY DEPENDING ON WHAT THE SITUATION IS; AND I WAS. AFTER DEP THE CAPT ASKED ME TO SELECT 2000 FT ON THE ALT WINDOW. I WAS LOOKING FOR MY DISTANCE FROM TEB; AND HADN'T CHANGED THE ALTITUDE ALERTER; AND HE WAS ALREADY CLBING. BEFORE I COULD VERIFY THE DISTANCE; DEP WAS ASKING US WHAT OUR ALTITUDE WAS. I TOLD THE CAPT TO RETURN TO 1500 FT AND THEN I RESPONDED TO ATC. WE DIDN'T GO OVER 1750 FT; AND ACKNOWLEDGED OUR ALTITUDE EXCURSION WHEN ASKED. HE SAID THERE WAS TRAFFIC OFF NEWARK THAT WE WERE GETTING CLOSE TO. WE HAD NO TFC ALERTS OR WARNINGS THAT OCCURRED. I THINK SOME OF THE CONFUSION MAY HAVE CAME FROM THE TURN TO 280 DEGS THAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN AS WELL AFTER REACHING 1500 FT.
