Synopsis

A B737-300 FLT CREW EXPERIENCED FO AIRSPEED AND ALTIMETER INDICATOR ANOMALIES AFTER TKOF. THEY CONFIRMED BEFORE DEP THAT LOCAL MUD DAUBER PROCEDURES HAD BEEN COMPLIED WITH.

Narrative

DURING THE TKOF ROLL; THE FO CALLED 80 KTS AND MY AIRSPD INDICATOR (AND HUD) MATCHED. V1 (138 KTS) AND ROTATE WERE NORMAL ON MY SIDE. AFTER THE FACT; MY FO STATED THAT HE WONDERED WHY I PULLED MY HAND AWAY AND ROTATED EARLY. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT HIS ALTIMETER WAS READING BELOW SEA LEVEL. WE CLBED NORMALLY AND CLEANED UP ON MY AIRSPD INDICATIONS. AS WE COMPARED AIRSPDS AND ALTS; IT BECAME APPARENT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH HIS PITOT STATIC. MY PRIMARY; BACKUP; AND HUD AIRSPD AND ALT ALL MATCHED UP EXACTLY. AS WE CLBED; THE FO'S AIRSPD WAS APPROX 40 KTS SLOWER THAN MINE. HIS ALTIMETER WAS READING APPROX 2000 FT LOWER THAN MINE. ALT READOUT FROM CTR WAS CONSISTENT WITH MY ALT READINGS. WE REFERRED TO THE QRH; CONTACTED DISPATCH; USED FOM CRUISE SETTING INFO. DISPATCH; MY FO; AND I ALL CONCURRED THAT A RETURN WAS NOT NECESSARY BASED ON THE VMC CONDITIONS AND THE ABILITY TO SEE THE ARPT AREA FROM CRUISE ALT. ANYONE REMOVING THE PITOT TUBE COVERS MUST ENSURE THAT THE PITOT TUBES ARE CLEAN AND CLR AFTERWARDS. COMPLIED WITH OAK MUD DAUBER PROCS WHILE PARKED AT THE GATE. RAMPER DISPLAYED AND I ACKNOWLEDGED 4 PITOT COVERS IN HIS HAND PRIOR TO PUSH. THEN I HANDED THE YOKE PLACARD TO THE OPS AGENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 803325: SINCE WE HAD EXECUTED MUD DAUBER PROCS IN OAK; WE DISCUSSED THE POSSIBILITY OF A PITOT COVER STILL INSTALLED OR PITOT/STATIC INFESTATION. WE HAD VERIFIED 4 PITOT COVERS REMOVED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROC. UPON ARR THE CAPT DISCOVERED A RUBBER GROMMET WAS ON THE FO'S SIDE UPPER PITOT TUBE. TAKE CARE WHEN REMOVING THE PITOT TUBE COVERS.
