Narrative
WHILE IN CRUISE; SOME FLT INST ANNUNCIATIONS (AS DH-AMBER FLAG) AND MY (CAPT'S) HSI BECAME 'LOCKED' IN A VOR MODE. SEVERAL MINS SUBSEQUENT TO THAT; WE RECEIVED A 'FWD EQUIP OVERHEAT' LIGHT ON EICAS. HAD FO PERFORM THE IRREGULAR PROC. AS PF; I CONSIDERED -- IF SITUATION DEGRADED FURTHER -- OPTIONS SUCH AS ENRTE ALTERNATES. CONTACTED DISPATCH AND MAINT. USED SATCOM COM AS INITIAL CONTACT WITH DISPATCH AND MAINT WAS POOR COM; SATCOM MUCH BETTER. MONITORED OPS OF SYS. AGREED WITH DISPATCH AND MAINT OK TO CONTINUE; TO ZZZ. AS WE PASSED W OF ZZZ1 HAD ANOTHER 'FWD EQUIP OVERHEAT' AS PER IRREGULAR PROC; DID RESET COOLING FOR FORWARD E&E; OVERHEATED AREA. SITUATION REMEDIED. ON SHORT FINAL APCH TO ZZZ (VFR) HAD 'NO COOLING' ANNUNCIATED. I HAD EMER EQUIP READY FOR US; IN CASE SMOKE OR FURTHER DEGRADATION OCCURRED. FACTORS -- HISTORY OF THIS PROB. ACFT OUT OF CONTRACT MAINT RECENTLY; FOR INSPECTION/ZZZ OPS WAS CLOSED; I CONTACTED DISPATCH TO HAVE PAPERWORK AVAIL AT PODIUM. NO FLT PAPERS WERE AVAILABLE. NEEDED TO 'FIND A USEABLE PRINTER.' VERY INAPPROPRIATE. OPS SHOULD BE OPEN/AVAILABLE SO WE CAN REVIEW PAPERWORK IN A MORE ORDERLY FASHION.
