Narrative
AFTER LNDG ON RWY 3 AT ABQ; ON ROLLOUT; TWR TELLS US TO TURN L ON TXWY G; THEN TAXI TXWYS G; C; E; HOLD SHORT OF RWY 8 -- OR SO WE THOUGHT. AS I REACHED TAXI SPD; I STARTED A L TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY LARGE EXPANSE OF CONCRETE THAT IS THE INTXN OF 3 RWYS AND TXWY G. I COULD NOT SEE ANY MARKINGS AS I WAS TURNING INTO A SETTING SUN. I ROLLED OUT ON WHAT I THOUGHT WAS TXWY G; BUT WAS ACTUALLY RWY 12. I QUICKLY TURNED R ONTO TXWY C WHEN I REALIZED MY MISTAKE. I WAS NOW TRYING TO REORIENT MYSELF AND STOPPED AT THE INTXN OF TXWY C AND TXWY E3. THEN TWR CALLED AND SAID WE WERE SUPPOSED TO TURN ON E3. WE THEN TURNED ON TO E3 AND PROCEEDED UNEVENTFULLY TO THE GATE. THE FO NEVER READ BACK ANYTHING ABOUT TXWY E3; ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS AT SOME POINT WE WOULD HAVE TO USE THAT TXWY TO CROSS RWY 8. ABQ TWR'S INSTRUCTIONS WERE ALMOST AS CONFUSING AS THE TXWY LAYOUT; AND TELLING US THE INSTRUCTIONS WHILE WE ARE STILL TRYING TO GET THE ACFT STOPPED IS NOT HELPFUL. NO OTHER TFC WAS INVOLVED IN THIS EVENT AND RWY 12 WAS NOT IN USE AT THE TIME. LESSON RELEARNED; BY ME AT LEAST; DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS UNTIL YOU ARE AT TAXI SPD.
