Synopsis

AFTER WORKING AN OVERNIGHT CHECK; A RIGHT PACK PROBLEM AND A #2 ENGINE IGNITION FAULT ON A B737-300; A MECHANIC IS INFORMED HE FAILED TO REINSTALL THE LEFT HAND IGNITOR PLUG SHROUD AND LEFT TWO SCREWDRIVERS ON THE INSIDE OF THE ENGINE CORE COWL.

Narrative

DURING SHIFT; I WAS WORKING ACFT X. THAT REQUIRED A MAINT CHK AND 2 MEL'S TO BE WORKED. ONE MEL WAS ON THE R PACK WITH AN AIR MIX PROB; AND THE OTHER WAS THE #2 ENG. I REPLACED THE L IGNITER PLUG LEAVING THE SHROUD OFF IN CASE THE OPS CHK FAILED AND I MIGHT HAVE TO REPLACE THE IGNITION LEAD. THE OPS CHK DID FAIL AND AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING; I HAD TO REPLACE THE EXCITER BOX ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ENG. WHILE WORKING; A FELLOW MECH CAME OVER AND ASKED FOR ADVICE ON A PROB HE WAS HAVING WITH HIS ASSIGNED ACFT. AFTER A SUCCESSFUL OPS CHK; I PROCEEDED TO CLOSE UP THE ENG AND FORGOT TO INSTALL THE IGNITER PLUG SHROUD -- A JOB I'VE DONE NUMEROUS TIMES. ALONG WITH THE SHROUD; I ALSO ACCIDENTALLY LEFT MY 2 SCREWDRIVERS ON THE INSIDE OF THE CORE COWL. I BELIEVE THAT THE DISTR COMBINED WITH THE PRESSURE AND TIME TO FIX THE MEL PROB AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT MEL AND MAINT CHK CAUSED ME TO BE DISTR AND COMPLACENT ENOUGH TO NOT DO A THOROUGH CHK OF THE ENG BEFORE CLOSE-UP. THE PROB WAS FOUND AND CORRECTED. IN THE FUTURE; I WILL MAKE SURE TO DO A PROPER TOOL INVENTORY AND WORK AREA CHK WHEN THE JOB IS COMPLETE.
