SF340 FLIGHT ATTENDANT REPORTS ACTIONS AND PREPARATIONS AFTER BEING INFORMED OF AN EMERGENCY LANDING; BY THE CAPTAIN; FOR AN UNSAFE LANDING GEAR INDICATION. LANDING IS NORMAL.

Narrative

UPON DSCNT (AFTER THE CABIN WAS SECURED FOR LNDG); I (FLT ATTENDANT) WAS SECURED IN MY JUMPSEAT WHEN ACFT WAS IN THE APCH DSCNT. WHEN I FELT THE ACFT PULL UP AND OUT OF DSCNT; I KNEW IMMEDIATELY WE WERE NOT LNDG; BUT UNSURE WHY. KNOWING THE FLT DECK WOULD BE CALLING ME TO LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS THEY COULD WHAT WAS GOING ON; I WAITED FOR THEIR CALL WHILE BEGINNING TO MENTALLY PREPARE. AFTER WE HAD RISEN TO AN ALT AND LEVELED OFF; I TURNED ON THE CABIN LIGHTS. THE CAPT CALLED TO SAY THERE WAS A MISSING LIGHT INDICATING A GEAR HAD NOT COME DOWN. HE SAID WE WOULD BE LNDG 'RED' IN EMER MODE; AND TO PREPARE THE CABIN FOR SUCH. HE WOULD GIVE THE PA TO THE PAX AND GIVE THE SAME INFO TO THEM. I WAS TOLD I HAD ABOUT 7 MINS TO PREPARE. THE PLTS WOULD CONFIRM BEFORE WE BEGAN OUR DSCNT TO LAND. EMER TRUCKS WOULD BE ASSISTING US AT THE RWY. I RELOCATED A PAX (CAPT FROM ANOTHER AIRLINE) TO MY FIRST ROW TO MAN THE EXIT DOORS. PULLED THE INSERT FROM MY MANUAL AND BEGAN TO PREPARE THE CABIN FOR A 'RED' EMER; PRACTICED THE BRACE POSITION WITH PAX; EDUCATED AND CONFIRMED KNOWLEDGE OF EXIT DOORS WITH ABLE-BODIED PAX IN ROW 6. DIRECTED THE ABLE-BODIED PAX FOR EVAC AND ESCORTING PAX AWAY FROM ACFT; AS WELL AS INSTRUCTING THEM TO BRING SUPPLIES OF FIRST AID CONTAINERS. CAPT CALLED BACK AND SAID WE WERE READY TO LAND. WE AGREED ON FLT DIRECTOR GIVING COMMAND OF 'BRACE; BRACE.' I INSTRUCTED THE PAX AT THIS COMMAND TO BEGIN BRACING. THE COMMAND CAME; WE BRACED; I HOLLERED 'HEADS DOWN; STAY DOWN;' AND CONTINUED THE COMMAND. WE LANDED; FIRE TRUCKS PRESENT AND FOLLOWING US OFF THE RWY TO GATE. WE DEPLANED IN NORMAL FASHION WITH A JETBRIDGE; UNEVENTFUL. EMER RESPONDERS CAME ON BOARD; SPOKE WITH PLTS. PLTS AND I DEBRIEFED. WE CALLED APPROPRIATE COMPANY CONTACTS; FILLED OUT PAPERWORK. CAPT CALLED AND TOLD ME EXACTLY STEP BY STEP WHAT THE SITUATION WAS; AND HOW WE WERE GOING TO HANDLE IT. HE TOLD ME TO PREPARE FOR A 'RED' EMER; AND WHAT TO EXPECT. HE GAVE ME THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT WAS AVAILABLE; SO I WOULD KNOW HOW LONG I HAD TO PREPARE THE CABIN. LNDG GEAR LIGHT BULBS WERE WORKING; BUT ONE OF THE LIGHTS DID NOT ILLUMINATE TO INDICATE GEAR WAS LOCKED IN PLACE. I DON'T KNOW HOW IT COULD HAVE GONE ANY BETTER OR BEEN PREVENTED. WE FELT WE 3 WORKED VERY WELL AND IN SYNC AND COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT ANY BETTER. WE ALL KNEW WHAT WE NEEDED TO DO; NO ONE SET A TONE OF FEAR; AND BECAUSE OF THAT; THE PAX WERE VERY COOPERATIVE; WITHOUT QUESTIONING. EVERY PERSON ON THAT ACFT HAD A JOB TO DO AND WE DID IT VERY WELL -- DOWN TO THE PAX.
