RECIPROCATING POWERED ACFT IS FUELED WITH JET A FUEL.

Narrative

FLEW RECIPROCATING SMT NONSTOP OSHKOSH; WI TO STATESVILLE; NC. IT WAS A RATHER CONGESTED TFC AREA WITH 2 SMA'S; AN MDT; AND I IN THE SMT ALL ARRIVING ON THE RAMP AT THE SAME TIME. AS I STOPPED THE ENGS; THE GUYS WITH THE FREIGHT I WAS TO PICK UP WERE RIGHT THERE AND I BEGAN LOADING; WHICH ONLY TOOK A FEW MINS. WHILE I WAS LOADING THE GAS MAN CAME UP AND ASKED WHAT I NEEDED. I TOLD HIM AND HE BEGAN TO FUEL WHILE I BEGAN DOING PAPERWORK. ALL THE WHILE THE MDT WAS IDLING ON THE OPP SIDE OF THE RAMP WHILE PAX WERE LOADING UP. ALSO; THERE WAS SOME GUY ASKING ABOUT THE AIRPLANE AND GENERALLY SHOOTING THE BREEZE WHILE I WAS DOING PAPERWORK. I WENT IN THE FBO OFFICE TO FILE A FLT PLAN BACK TO WARSAW; WI. WHILE I WAS DIALING THE PHONE THE LINEMAN CAME UP WITH THE FUEL GRILL. I LOOKED AT THE BILL AND IT SAID JET FUEL. I SAID; 'YOU REALLY DIDN'T PUT JET FUEL IN THAT AIRPLANE; DID YOU?!' THE LINEMAN SAID; 'YES.' I WENT OUT TO DOUBLECHK IT. THE MAIN TANKS WERE INCONCLUSIVE (LATER IT WAS FIGURED TO HAVE 35 GALS IN THE 99 GAL TANK). THE OUTBOARDS; HOWEVER; LEFT NO DOUBT AS TO WHAT WAS IN THERE. THE NEXT 3 HRS WERE SPENT DRAINING AND FLUSHING THE FUEL SYS. FACTORS WERE SEVERAL. ONE WAS THE LINEMAN ALREADY IN THE JET TRUCK TO MAKE A BIG SALE TO THE MDT. THE BIGGEST FACTOR WAS THAT THE LINEMAN FILLED TURBINE POWERED SMT'S ON A REGULAR BASIS. ALSO; THE JET FUEL TRUCK REALLY DIDN'T ATTRACT ATTN. IT WAS A SMALL WHITE UNIT WITH A SILVER TANK AND A SMALL SIGN '100LL.' THE 2 OF THEM SIDE-BY-SIDE LOOKED ALMOST IDENTICAL.
