Synopsis

FOLLOWING MAINTENANCE ON THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM; DHC-8 TAXIES OUT WITH GEAR DOORS PIN STILL INSTALLED. NOTE RIGHT MAIN GEAR DOOR IS OPEN PRIOR TO TAKEOFF AND RETURN TO GATE FOR MAINTENANCE TO COMPLETE THEIR JOB.

Narrative

MAINT HAD JUST PERFORMED A LEAK CHK USING A GPU TO RUN THE HYD PUMPS. THEY HAD ALSO PINNED THE GEAR DOORS SO THAT THEY COULD NOT CLOSE WHILE THEY WERE CHKING FOR LEAKS WITH THE HYD PUMPS RUNNING. ONCE THE WORK WAS COMPLETED THE LOGBOOK WAS SIGNED OFF AND RETURNED TO THE FLT DECK. THE FO WENT TO INSPECT THE WORK AND 2 MECHS WERE STILL WIPING DOWN THE INSIDE OF THE GEAR WELL. THEY TOLD THE FO THAT THE WORK WAS COMPLETED AND THAT THEY WERE JUST ABOUT FINISHED. THE FO SAID THANKS AND HAD TO GO TO THE CREW ROOM TO OBTAIN MORE WT AND BAL FORMS. UPON RETURN TO THE ACFT; THE MECH GAVE HIM THE THUMBS UP AND HE RETURNED TO THE FLT DECK. ONCE ON THE FLT DECK; HE RPTED THAT ALL WORK WAS COMPLETE AND WE WERE GOOD TO GO. WE THEN COMPLETED THE PAPERWORK AND PUSHED BACK. ONCE BOTH ENGS WERE STARTED AND ALL CHKLISTS COMPLETED; WE TAXIED TO OUR SPOT. IT WAS THEN THAT I NOTICED THAT THE R GEAR DOORS WERE NOT CLOSED. WE THEN CALLED RAMP AND RETURNED TO THE GATE. ONCE AT THE GATE; I CALLED DISPATCH AND MAINT AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROB. A WRITE-UP WAS RECORDED IN THE LOGBOOK AND MAINT RETURNED TO THE ACFT AND REMOVED THE DOOR PIN. THE FLT THEN CONTINUED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
