Narrative

WE WERE GIVEN INSTRUCTION TO TAXI ON D3 THEN VIA TXWY D; TO RWY 29R. WE WERE TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 29L ON TXWY D. ON TXWY D WE APCHED SIGNAGE THAT SAID 'CAT II HOLDING TXWY 11L.' WE CHECKED THE ARPT DIAGRAM AND NOTICED THAT RWY 29L DID NOT INTERSECT TXWY D. WEATHER WAS VFR; NO CAT II OPS WERE IN EFFECT. WE CONTINUED OUR TAXI AND HELD SHORT OF RWY 29R. SUBSEQUENTLY; WE WERE CLEARED TO CROSS RWY 29R AND TAXI EBND FOR A FULL LENGTH DEP FROM RWY 29R. THE TUS TOWER CALLED US AND REQUESTED WE CONTACT THEM ON A LAND LINE. WE MADE A NORMAL DEP FROM RWY 29R; AND THE FLT TO OUR DEST WAS UNEVENTFUL. WE BELIEVE THE ARPT SIGNAGE WAS VERY CONFUSING; CAT II OPS WERE NOT IN EFFECT; AND THE RWY APPEARED ON THE CHART TO END BEFORE OUR TXWY D. WE BELIEVE THE ARPT DIAGRAM IS INCOMPLETE; POORLY WRITTEN; AND A SAFETY HAZARD. UPON OUR CONVERSATION WITH THE TUS TOWER CTLR; HE INDICATED THAT INCURSIONS AT THAT INTXN HAPPEN 'ALL THE TIME.' WE BELIEVE THE SIGNAGE SHOULD BE IMPROVED AND THE ARPT DIAGRAM MODIFIED TO READ MORE CLEARLY. NO OTHER ACFT WERE INVOLVED AND NO CONFLICT OCCURRED.
