Narrative
APCH REQUESTED A CANCELLATION OF MY IFR FLT PLAN IN THE AIR OR WITH FSS ON THE GND. SINCE FIELD WAS IFR; I HAD TO WAIT TO CALL FSS ON THE GND. CALLED FSS (800-WXBRIEF) AND CANCELED WHEN THE PLANE WAS OFF THE RWY AND ON THE RAMP. ABOUT 20 MINS LATER; AN FBO WORKER ASKED IF I OWNED ACFT X AND TOLD ME THAT APCH SAID I HADN'T CANCELED MY FLT PLAN AND WANTED TO TALK TO ME. TRIED CALLING THE NUMBER THAT THE CTLR HAD GIVEN HIM BUT IT WAS LISTED AS OTS. CALLED FSS AGAIN AT XA20 TO CONFIRM THAT MY FLT PLAN WAS CANCELED AND THEY CONFIRMED HAVING A RECORD OF CANCELLATION AT XA07. I ASKED THEM TO CALL APCH AGAIN BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T RECEIVE IT. ABOUT 10 MINS LATER THE FBO AGENT CAME BY AGAIN TO SAY THAT APCH HAD CALLED 5 MORE TIMES EXTREMELY UPSET AND WANTED ME TO CALL. I TRIED THE NUMBER GIVEN AGAIN AND IT STILL WAS LISTED AS OTS. LATER; THE FBO AGENT CAME BY AND SAID THAT THEY RECEIVED A CANCELLATION. OBVIOUSLY; THERE IS A FLAW IN THE SYSTEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I CONFIRMED IN THE AFD THAT THERE WAS NO LOCAL NUMBER FOR FSS AND THAT 800-WXBRIEF WAS TO BE USED.
