Cabin attendant aboard undisclosed air carrier aircraft reports gear failed to retract and an emergency was declared. Flight returned to departure airport after burning fuel for about one hour.

Narrative

After takeoff; the crew noticed the aircraft was not ascending and it was pulling back for a while. Captain later informed both flight attendants that the landing gear was stuck and refused to come up. They claim they tried several times to bring the landing gear up and yet were unable to. Captain informed we would have to burn off some fuel before being able to land in ZZZ once again. Captain informed no emergency landing was necessary. About 1 hour later; Captain had informed they have completed their checklist and this requires an emergency landing. Both myself and the other flight attendant prepared the cabin for an emergency landing. Made an announcement stating we would be walking around to discard all trash to prepare for the landing. Made sure all passengers were in compliance. Briefly explained the brace position and what to expect. First Officer gave the brace commands and we complied. Thankfully; landing went well. All passengers complied; there were no injuries. Police; fire fighter; and the paramedics were waiting on the runway. Maintenance quickly came in and placed a pin in the landing gear to make sure that the landing gear wouldn't go anywhere. We safely arrived at the gate and deplaned all passengers.
