Narrative
I MUST FIRST START WITH THE CONCEPT; 'THERE IS NO EXCUSE' IT WAS STUPID AND MY FAULT. DURING PREFLT WHILE CHKING L ENG OIL; A LARGE AMOUNT SPILLED OVER AND RAN DOWN INTO THE HOUSING. THIS DID SOME DRIPPING WHILE STARTING UP AND MOST LIKELY CONCERNED THE PAX. THERE WAS A LOT OF QUESTION AND ALARM. AS WE TAXIED MORE OIL DRIPPED AND THEY WONDERED IF WE HAD A LEAK. I TRIED TO ASSURE THEM ALL WAS OK AND I WAS MONITORING THE PRESS. AT THIS SAME TIME GND 121.4 WAS DIRECTING MY TAXI OVER OTHER ACFT AND ON AND OFF A RWY TO A TXWY. SINCE MY CLRNC WAS FOR 27L DEP; I SET MY COURSE SELECT NEEDLE FOR THE RWY HDG AND MY HDG BUG FOR THE DEP COURSE AFTER TKOF. FIRST PROB; THE DAY BEFORE I HAD COME IN ON AN ILS RWY 9R AND HAD NEVER CLRED THE FREQ OFF. UPON ARR AT THE THRESHOLD THE TWR CLRED ME FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF AND WHILE WATCHING OIL PRESS WHILE MOVING MY CONDITION LEVERS UP TO 99%. I ONLY LOOK AT MY YELLOW NEEDLE (COURSE SELECTION) AND TURNED TO THE WRONG HDG AS I PULLED ONTO THE RWY AND STARTED MY TKOF ROLL. LOOKING VERY BRIEFLY DOWN THE RWY I SAW THE NUMBERS (BUT THEY WERE UPSIDE DOWN). A LOT OF NOISE CAME FROM MY PAX ABOUT THE OIL AND WHEN I REALIZED WE WERE HEADED WRONG; CHOICE WAS TRY TO REVERSE AND BRAKE FROM ABOUT 95 KTS; OR 'GO TO THE WALL'. I WENT TO THE WALL AND YANKED IT OFF; ON CLB OUT WE CAME WITHIN ABOUT 500' OF XING LIGHT PLANE AND I CALLED FLL IMMED AND STATED 'I SCREWED UP.' TWR TOLD ME TO CONTINUE CLB AND MAINTAIN HDG. END OF INCIDENT. MY FAULT; NO EXCUSE!
