Narrative

CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 13R JFK. MY ATTN WAS ON THE FOLLOWING IN THE ORDER WRITTEN: UNIFORM SPOOL UP AND EPR SET FOR TKOF FOLLOWED BY EPR COMMAND CENTERLINE TRACK AS WE TRANSITIONED FROM CAPT STEERING TO F/O RUDDER STEERING THE WDB DEP POINT IN FRONT OF US FOR VOR POINT. GLANCE AT AIRSPEED FOR 80 KT CHECK OF EICAS COMPUTER TO COMFIRM NO 'SILENT' SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS AND ENG PARAMETER CHECK GLANCE DOWN RWY FOR TRACK AND QUICK GLANCE AT AIRSPEED FOR 100 KT PROPER ACCELERATION AND RELATIVE SPEED TO V1; BACK TO RWY FOR VISUAL TKOF UNTIL AIRBORNE. JUST AS I WAS LOOKING BACK TO THE RWY FOR VISUAL TKOF THE CAPT EXCLAIMED 'WHAT IS HE DOING!' AND PULLED THE POWER OFF IN A SUDDEN MAX EFFORT ABORT. I SAW THE TWIN SMT Y FOR THE FIRST TIME; SIMULTANEOUS WITH THE CAPT'S EXCLAMATION AND ABORT INITIATION. (OUR COMPANY PROCEDURE CALLS FOR THE CAPT TO OPERATE THE THROTTLES ONCE TKOF POWER HAD BEEN SET). SPEED AT ABORT WAS JUST OVER 100 KT. TKOF COMMENCED AT TXWY PD (FULL LENGTH); INCURSION OCCURRED AT PA. SMT Y WENT TO CL POSITION IN OUR PATH. BOTH ACFT EXITED AT N; THE SMT Y FIRST. AN ACR ACFT WAS IN #2 SEQUENCE AT THE FULL LENGTH (PD) SO EITHER THE CTLR DID NOT KNOW WE HAD NOT YET PASSED PA INTXN OR HE DID NOT KNOW THE SMT Y WAS AT PA INTXN. CONVERSATION WITH THE TWR ON LAND LINE INDICATED THE CTLR THOUGHT THE SMT Y WAS AT PD (FULL LENGTH)--BUT IF SO; HE WAS NOT THE NEXT ACFT FOR RWY 13R AT THAT INTXN! FORTUNATELY OTHER THAN HOT BRAKES; TEMPERS AND HEARTBEATS AT ELEVATED; NO ONE WAS HURT AND NO DAMAGE OCCURRED. I WAS WORKING GND CTL ON THE AFTERNOON OF MARCH SAT. AN LGT X CALLED FOR TAXE TO 13R (DEP 13R; ARR 13L; 22L) I TAXIED HIM TOWARD THE RWY. A FEW MINUTES LATER THE SMT Y CALLED FOR TAXI; I INSTRUCTED HIM TO FOLLOW THE LGT X. THE SMT Y LATER WOUND UP AT AN INTERSECTION AND WAS PUT INTO POSITION IN FRONT OF THE DEPARTING LGT X; CAUSING LGT X TO ABORT.
