MLG TKOF 5000 POUNDS TOO HEAVY FOR THE RWY SELECTED.

Narrative

WE WERE RUSHED IN TAXIING OUT OF CONGESTED RAMP AND GND CTL CLRED US TO TAXI TO RWY 33L FOR TKOF. IT WAS A SHORT TAXI; AND AS WE DID THE TKOF CHKLIST AT THE HOLD SHORT LINE; A SMALL COMMUTER TYPE CALLED READY FOR TKOF BEHIND US. AND; HE INQUIRED IF IT WOULD BE QUICKER IF HE TOOK OFF ON THE OTHER RWY; RWY 33R. I TOLD THE COPLT TO TELL THEM WE WOULD BE READY SHORTLY AND WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. THE WIND WAS 10 KTS DOWN THE RWY; AND THE TKOF ROLL WAS NORMAL AND WE BOTH REMARKED HOW LITTLE RWY REMAINED AT LIFTOFF. AFTER AN UNEVENTFUL CLBOUT WE DISCOVERED ON THE TKOF PAPERWORK THAT WE WERE APPROX 5000 LBS TOO HEAVY FOR RWY 33L. RWY 6 AND 24 WERE 800' LONGER AND WERE LEGAL FOR OUR WT. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE FIELD. THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME OPERATING THERE. WE LANDED THE DAY BEFORE ON RWY 33L. I WAS MENTALLY PREPARED FOR SHORT RWYS SO IN POS FOR TKOF THE RWY LOOKED AS I SUSPECTED. EVEN THE TKOF ROLL DID NOT SURPRISE ME. I RUSHED MYSELF WITH THE SHORT TAXI AND DID NOT ADEQUATELY CHK THE TKOF DATA. THE RUSHED ATMOSPHERE; THE PERCEPTION THAT ALL THE RWYS WERE SHORT AND THE GND CTLR SENDING US TO RWY 33L LED ME DOWN THE PATH THAT THIS WAS ALL NORMAL. NO FLAGS WERE WAVING TO TRIP MY PERCEPTION THAT THIS IS ROUTINE JUST SHORTER; AND TO MAKE ME LOOK TWICE AT THE TKOF DATA.
