SMA ON VFR FLT; NO FLT PLAN ENTERS TCA WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative
ON 3/FRI/88; I WAS A PAX IN AN SMA FLOWN BY A LONG TIME HIGH HOUR COMMERCIAL PLT. WE WERE FLYING VFR S FROM THE SOLBERG VOR TO THE FLYING W ARPT IN NJ. I WAS IN THE RIGHT SEAT AND NOT INVOLVED IN THE OPERATION OF ANY OF THE FLT ACTIVITIES AT ALL; OTHER THAN LOOKING UP THE R TO FLY FROM THE SOLBERG VOR DIRECT TO FLYING W ARPT AND THE FREQ OF THE SOLBERG VOR. AT OR NEAR THE SOLBERG VOR I LOOKED UP THE R FOR FLYING DIRECT TO THE FLYING W ARPT AND DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE 195 DEG R OUT OF SOLBERG. I INFORMED THE PLT OF THE R AND WENT BACK TO SIGHTSEEING. SOME TIME LATER I INFORMED THE PLT THAT WE SHOULD CALL MC GUIRE APCH AND INFORM THEM OF OUR INTENTIONS; SINCE WE WOULD BE FLYING VERY CLOSE TO THEIR RESTR AREA. THE PLT AGREED AND I GAVE HIM A FREQ TO CONTACT MC GUIRE APCH. I SAW HIM TWIST IN A NUMBER ON THE TRANSPONDER WHICH WAS GIVEN HIM BY MC GUIRE APCH. I THEN HEARD MC GUIRE HAND HIM OFF TO PHL APCH AT SOME DIFFERENT FREQ AND CONTINUED TO SIGHTSEE. SHORTLY I HEARD PHL APCH CONTACT MY PLT AND INFORM HIM THAT HE HAD PENETRATED THE PHL TCA AT 6000' VFR AND REQUEST THE N NUMBER OF THE ACFT AND HOME BASE OF THE ACFT. THE PLT GAVE HIM THE INFO AND THEN PHL APCH REQUESTED HIS DEST. MY PLT GAVE THE DEST AS FLYING W ARPT IN NJ. PHL APCH ADVISED HIM TO TURN LEFT TO A HDG OF 080 DEGS TO REACH THE ARPT AND THIS IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME THAT WE MUST HAVE BEEN WELL INTO THE TCA. AS I RECALL; PHL APCH ADVISED MY PLT THAT ONCE WE WERE STRAIGHTENED OUT; WE WERE ABOUT 12 MI AT 12 O'CLOCK TO THE ARPT. WE FINALLY LOCATED IT AND LANDED. I AM A PVT PLT AND WAS NOT CHKED OUT IN THIS PARTICULAR TYPE OF ACFT. I WAS IN NO WAY FLYING THE ACFT OR INVOLVED IN SETTING HDGS; ALTIMETERS; RADIALS OR ANYTHING ELSE IN THE FLYING OF THE ACFT. AS I INDICATED; I DID LOOK UP A R AND VOR FREQ FOR THE PLT AND MC GUIRE APCH FREQ. OTHER THAN THAT; I WAS NOT AT ALL INVOLVED IN THE OPERATION OF THE ACFT OR INSTRUMENTS.
