OJT IN PROGRESS AT TRACON; MLG AND LTT OFF ADJACENT ARPTS HAD LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION DUE TO POOR STRIP MARKING; POOR RDOS AND POOR PLANNING.
Narrative
I WAS MONITORING A TRNEE WORKING THE DEP CTL POS IN THE NEWARK SECTOR. MLG X DEPARTED NEWARK AND WAS ISSUED A 330 DEG HDG AND TO CLB AND MAINTAIN 10000'. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME LTT Y DEPARTED TEB AND WAS ISSUED A 270 DEG HDG AND TO MAINTAIN 1500'. ONCE THE LTT Y WAS CLR OF THE NEWARK FINAL THE TRNEE INSTRUCTED LTT Y TO MAINTAIN 8000'. A CTLR AT THE LIBERTY SECTOR CALLED OVER ON THE LANDLINE AND QUESTIONED THE ROUTING OF MLG X. THE TRNEE NOTICED THAT THE STRIP WAS MARKED WRONG BY THE FLT DATA POS AND TOLD THE LIBERTY CTLR THAT HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. THE TRNEE INSTRUCTED MLG X TO MAINTAIN 7000' AT THIS TIME I NOTICED MLG X MODE C TO READOUT 7300' AND CLBING. I TOLD MLG X TO DISREGARD AND TO CLB AND MAINTAIN 8000'. AT THIS TIME LTT Y WBOUND WAS LEVELING OFF AT 8000'. I INSTRUCTED LTT Y TO TURN RIGHT TO A HDG OF 350 DEGS AND TO MAINTAIN 10000'. DUE TO POOR RADIOS IN THE NEWARK SECTOR; LTT Y HAD QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS INSTRUCTIONS WHICH MADE ME ISSUE THE CTL INSTRUCTIONS ONCE AGAIN. MY SUGGESTION AS TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN IS FOR FLT DATA TO ENSURE THE PROPER STRIP MARKING FOR THE ROUTE OF FLT; BETTER FREQS TO WORK WITH AND TO STAFF A HDOF POS.
