AT ABOUT XA:OO LOCAL TIME; I CALLED CHARLOTTE-DOUGLAS CLRNC (FROM BUTLER AVIATION RAMP) AND RECEIVED MY IFR CLRNC. I WAS TOLD TO USE THE CHARLOTTE-DOUGLAS 4 DEP. I COULD NOT FIND THAT DEP; SO I HAD HIM READ IT TO ME. I THEN CALLED GND AND TAXIED TO RWY 36R. I DID MY RUNUP AND CONTACTED TWR WHEN READY FOR TKOF. WHEN I WAS CLRED; I TOOK OFF; AND SHORTLY AFTER; TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO TURN L ON COURSE. HE THEN SWITCHED ME OVER TO DEP. DEP TOLD ME TO FLY HDG 050 DEG. I DID THAT AND SHORTLY AFTER A VOICE ON THE RADIO (I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS TWR OR DEP; I ASSUMED DEP) TOLD ME I DISOBEYED THE TWR'S INSTRUCTIONS. HE SAID I WAS SUPPOSED TO TURN R ON COURSE; NOT L. AT THAT TIME I WASN'T 100% SURE IF TWR SAID R OR L. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: ONE THING I DID NOT LIKE WAS CLRNC DELIVERY REQUESTING PLTS NOT TO READ BACK IFR CLRNC. TWR CTL ALSO TALKED VERY FAST AND MUMBLED; BUT I FELT I UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING THAT WAS SAID. THE RADIO PERSONS AT CHARLOTTE WERE NOT PLEASANT TO TALK TO AT ALL. THEY WERE VERY RUDE; WHEN I WOULD ASK THEM TO REPEAT SOMETHING. BEING A LITTLE UPSET ABOUT WHAT THE TWR HAD SAID; I ENDED UP GOING TO 5500' INSTEAD OF 5000' WHEN DEP INSTRUCTED ME TO GO FROM 3000' TO 5000'. I QUICKLY WENT BACK TO 5000' AND LEVELED OFF.
