Synopsis

A Mechanic and Inspector reported their involvement with a robbed (cannibalized) Door slide from door 1-Left of one A319 that was installed on another A319 at door 1-Right. The door Girt bars with the Visual Armed/Disarmed indicators were not installed to properly position the visual indicator properly.

Narrative

The Left forward entry door (L-1) slide of aircraft 'X' was robbed for use on aircraft 'Y'. The problem bringing this slide change was a failure of the Emergency Light test. Troubleshooting procedures were used in attempt to determine what the cause was; it was originally thought to be the L-1 slide. However the troubleshooting found that it was the Right forward entry R-1 slide. The Girt bar was never removed from the slide that was robbed off of aircraft 'X'; so during the process of swapping slides around; the slide from L-1 of aircraft 'X' was put on R-1 of aircraft 'Y'. The Girt bar was the incorrect configuration for this position; but doesn't hinder the operation of the slide. Only the visual indication on the Girt bar was in the wrong position; but went unnoticed by all Mechanics. During installation of the new slide on aircraft 'X'; the Girt bar that was on the Off unit of aircraft 'Y' was taken for use on aircraft 'X'. However during installation it was noticed that the Girt bar visual indicator was on the wrong side of the Girt bar for use on the L-1 door of aircraft 'X'. Several factors led to this event: 1. The lack of attention to the Girt bar visual indicator's position once the slide it was attached to was installed on the R-1 door of aircraft 'Y'.2. The change in the A319's scheduling leading to more of a rush.3. Lack of attention to the paperwork.Supervisor was notified of the issue; however at that time aircraft 'Y' was in flight to it's destination. Upon landing and deboarding; aircraft 'Y' was then ferry flown back to ZZZ. Paperwork should be read prior to the job; as well as throughout the Job procedure. An attempt to maintain aircraft scheduling; as to not cause a rush at the last moment; should be made; as well as better attention being made to parts being installed and removed.

Second reporter narrative

Troubleshooting Cabin Intercommunication Data System (CIDS) panel for slide Emergency Light test; L-1 door slide was thought to be the problem; but as troubleshooting continued it was found that the R-1 slide was the problem. The robbed slide was effective for the A319; but the Visual door Armed/ Disarmed indicator was in the wrong position. The slide Armed and Disarmed normally and was checked in the cockpit ECAM. It was found the Girt bar was side sensitive to door position. Paperwork was not followed step by step.Notified Supervisor of event but aircraft had already departed. There was no safety of flight issue. Follow paperwork and don't take short cuts.

NASA callback

Reporter stated the Visual indicator is a curved wire with a round head that moves with the Girt bar whenever the door slide is armed or disarmed. The Visual indicator will point to markers on the cabin floor near the Girt bar indicating door slide is 'armed' or 'disarmed'; depending on what position the door slide arming handle is in. Reporter stated the only problem was the Visual indicator should only be at the forward end of the Girt bar. Because they did not switch both Girt bars from both slides; the Visual indicators ended up being on the Aft end of the Girt bars.
