REPORTED VIOLATION OF FEDERAL AVIATION REG REFERENCE TO 8 IN 24.

Narrative

THIS OCCURRENCE PERTAINS TO PART 135 OF THE FARS LIMITING FLT CREW MEMBERS TO 8 FLT HRS IN A 24 HR PERIOD FOR UNSCHEDULED OPERATIONS FOR A SCHEDULED 135 AIR CARRIER. WE WERE ON A SCHEDULED TRIP ASSIGNMENT AND WE HAD ALREADY FLOWN 1.7 HRS. WE WERE ASKED TO FLY 2 MECHANICS FROM OUR CREW BASE IN MEMPHIS; TN TO PENSACOLA; FL THEN REPOSITION BACK TO LAUREL HATTIESBURG; MS (PINE BELT REGIONAL). WE DETERMINED OUR TOTAL FLT TIME AFTER COMPLETION OF OUR TRIP PLUS EXTRA FLYING WOULD NOT EXCEED 8 HRS IN A 24 HR PERIOD. DURING THE TRIP WE HAD TO DO SOME DEVIATING FOR WX ALONG OUR ROUTES; BUT WE TOOK THIS EXTRA TIME INTO ACCOUNT AND DETERMINED THAT WE WOULD NOT EXCEED 8 HRS. UPON COMPLETION OF OUR TRIP WE TOTALED UP OUR TIME WHICH CAME UP TO 8.5 HRS. WE THEN DOUBLE-CHECKED OUR TIMES AND DETERMINED THAT WE HAD MADE A MISTAKE IN OUR ADDITION OF THE TIMES EARLIER IN OUR TRIP CAUSING US TO UNKNOWINGLY BE IN VIOLATION OF THE ABOVE REG. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: FAR 135.267 - UNSCHEDULED FLT TIME LIMITATION FOR 2 PLTS IS 10 HRS. RPTR ADVISED HAD THE WX NOT BEEN A PROBLEM; THE SEQUENCE WOULD HAVE TOTALED ABOUT 8 HRS. COMPANY WAS BEING INSPECTED BY FAA THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT AND FEELS MGMNT WAS TRYING TO IMPRESS ON THE FAA THEIR COMPLIANCE WITH REGS. IS GOING TO POINT OUT FAR 135.267 TO COMPANY.
