NMAC BETWEEN SMT AND LGT AFTER DEPARTING PARALLEL RWYS. NO TRAFFIC ADVISORIES GIVEN. OPERATIONAL ERROR.

Narrative

ON 5/SAT/88; AT APPROX XA25 HRS; MY FLT; SMT X; DEPARTED RWY 6L AT ANC. THE F/O WAS AT THE CTLS FOR THE TKOF. DURING THE TKOF ROLL THE TWR CTLR ADVISED US TO MAKE A 10 DEG LEFT TURN AFTER DEP FOR DEPARTING TFC OFF OF RWY 6R. WE DEPARTED FROM INTXN ECHO ON RWY 6L AND USED APPROX 1000' OF RWY. WE CONTINUED OUR CLB AND AT APPROX 500' AGL; USING THE RADAR ALTIMETER; WE MADE THE LEFT TURN APPROX 10 DEGS. AT APPROX XA29 HRS; THE TWR CTLR ADVISED US 'RIGHT TURN AT YOUR DISCRETION AND CONTACT DEP.' I RESPONDED WITH; 'SMT X ROGER.' THE F/O TURNED TO HER RIGHT AND STATED; 'CLR RIGHT.' WE THEN BEGAN A CLBING RIGHT TURN TO CONTINUE ON COURSE. I CONTACTED DEP CTL ON FREQ 123.8 AS INSTRUCTED. THE CTLR ACKNOWLEDGED WITH 'RADAR CONTACT.' APPROX HALFWAY THROUGH OUR TURN I SAW; OUT OF THE COPLT'S DOOR WINDOW; AN LGT Y IN A CLBING RIGHT TURN. I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND MADE A LEFT TURN BACK TO THE E. AS SOON AS THE LGT Y HAD PASSED WE CONTINUED TO TURN ON COURSE 210 DEGS. THE DEP CTLR ADVISED US TO CAUTION WAKE TURB FROM THE LGT Y. THE PLT OF THE LGT Y ADVISED DEP THAT THE FIRST HE KNEW OF USE WAS ON HIS CLBOUT AND HE HAD TO MAKE A TURN. I ADVISED DEP THAT WE WERE TOLD TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AT OUR DISCRETION AND CONTACT HIM. THE CTLR SAID HE WOULD PASS IT ON. WE CONTINUED OUR CLB AS TO PASS ABOVE THE JET'S WAKE TURB. WE DID NOT ENCOUNTER ANY TURB. WE REMAINED UNDER ARSA CTL UNTIL WE WERE APPROX 25 MI SW OF THE ARPT.
