MLG ABORTS TKOF DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE.
Narrative
TKOF WAS NORMAL THROUGH 110 KIAS. AT THIS TIME WE PERCEIVED A SIMULTANEOUS LOUD SERIES OF COMPRESSOR STALLS FROM THE LEFT ENG; ACCOMPANIED BY ACFT VIBRATION. THE TKOF WAS ABORTED AND THE AIRPLANE TURNED OFF THE RWY AND ONTO THE TXWY. #1 ENG WAS SHUT DOWN AS IT WAS UNABLE TO BE ADVANCED W/O THE ENG STALLING. AS WE PROCEEDED TOWARD THE GATE ON THE TXWY; THE LEFT LNDG GEAR TIRES BLEW OUT. WE CALLED FOR APPROPRIATE ASSISTANCE AND DEPARTED THE AIRPLANE ON A BUS TO THE GATE AREA. INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE #1 MAIN TIRE BLEW DURING TKOF ROLL. THE TIRE DEBRIS DAMAGED THE LEFT LNDG GEAR DOOR AND INBOARD FLAP. DAMAGED PIECES ENTERED THE #1 ENG INTAKE DUCT; RESULTING IN SEVERE COMPRESSOR STALLS AND LOSS OF PWR. DUE TO THE MAX TKOF WT CONDITION; IN COMBINATION WITH ONLY 1 LEFT MAIN GEAR TIRE BEARING THE EXTREMELY HIGH BRAKE ENERGY LOADS; #2 TIRE THERMAL PLUGS BLEW; RESULTING IN THE AIRPLANE RESTING ON THE LEFT LNDG GEAR TRUNK ASSEMBLY. COMPANY POLICY IS TO USE RETREADED TIRES. I BELIEVE LIMITS SHOULD APPLY AS TO THE NUMBER OF TIMES A PARTICULAR TIRE CAN BE RETREADED. THE TIRES ON THIS ACFT APPEARED TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION; YET THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE MUST HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE.
