ACR MLG RECEIVED AND ACKNOWLEDGED CLRNC TO 10000'. ON CHANGEOVER FROM CENTER TO APCH WAS TOLD SUPPOSED TO BE AT 12000'.

Narrative

I WAS SERVING AS F/O ON A SCHEDULED FLT FROM MEM TO CVG. A XING RESTRICTION WAS GIVEN US WHICH THE CAPT WROTE DOWN AS 'CROSS 30 MI SW OF CVG AT 10000' AND 250 KTS.' 10000' WAS THEN SET ON THE ALT ALERTER AND THE RESTRICTION WAS THEN READ BACK TO IND CENTER. WE DESCENDED TO 10000' AND SLOWED TO 250 KTS. AT 37 DME SW CVG WE REPORTED (I BELIEVE IT WAS CVG APCH) 'LEVEL AT 10000'; 250 KTS;' AT WHICH TIME ATC'S REPLY WAS; 'MAINTAIN 10000'; YOUR CLRNC WAS TO 12000'.' THIS SURPRISED BOTH THE CAPT AND I AS 10000' WAS WRITTEN DOWN; 10000' WAS SET IN THE ALT ALERTER AND NO MENTION OF AN ALT ERROR WAS MENTIONED BY ATC UNTIL WE HAD DSNDED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 10000'; LEVELED OFF; AND WERE CRUISING LEVEL AND SWITCHED TO CVG APCH. I REPLIED THAT WE HAD 'READ BACK THE RESTRICTION AS CROSS 30 AT 10 AND 250 KTS.' WE CONTINUED ON APCH CTL AND LANDED CVG. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 90254: BOTH THE F/O AND I HAD COPIED DOWN 10000' AND THE F/O HAD READ BACK TO ZID; 'CROSS 30 DME SW OF CINCINNATI VOR AT 10000'.'
