FA WHO DID NOT MEET CURRENCY REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL AVIATION REGS FLEW TRIP ON ACR MDT.
Narrative
WE WERE FLYING A TRIP THAT ORIGINATED IN ROA AND WENT DCA-HPN-DCA-ORF. THE F/A WE STARTED WITH WAS REPLACED THE FIRST TIME IN DCA. THE REPLACEMENT F/A TOLD ME THAT SHE 'HADN'T WORKED ON AN MDT IN A LONG TIME' AND WASN'T FAMILIAR WITH IT. I SHOWED HER HOW TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR AND WHERE THE EMER EQUIP AND EXITS ARE LOCATED. SHE CHKED THE GALLEY; DECIDED SHE COULD HANDLE EVERYTHING OK; AND WE DEPARTED FOR HPN. WHEN SHE BROUGHT US COKES DURING THE FLT SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE HADN'T WORKED ON THE MDT IN 3 YRS AND HADN'T BEEN GIVEN ANY RECURRENT TRNING ON THE AIRPLANE. UPON ARR IN HPN I CALLED OUR DISPATCH OFFICE TO CHK ON HER QUALIFICATIONS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CHIEF F/A AND THE DIRECTOR OF INFLT SVCS SAID THAT THE F/A HAD RECEIVED RECURRENT TRNING AND WAS LEGAL FOR THE TRIP. MY PROB NOW WAS WHETHER TO CONTINUE THE TRIP WITH A POSSIBLY ILLEGAL F/A; OR DELAY THE FLT UNTIL SHE COULD BE REPLACED. SINCE I DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO HER TRNING RECORDS AND WOULD RISK DISCIPLINARY ACTION FOR INSUBORDINATION; I ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE TRIP. FURTHER DISCUSSION OF THE MATTER REVEALED THAT THE RECURRENT TRNING RECEIVED BY SOME F/A'S DID NOT INCLUDE OPERATING THE EMER EXITS AND EQUIP ON THE MDT; ALTHOUGH THEY RECEIVED CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION ON THE EQUIP. THIS IS PRESENTLY BEING CORRECTED IN THE RECURRENT TRNING CURRICULUM.
