Synopsis

An A319 flight crew momentarily lost control while expediting their single engine taxi across a wet; active runway. An aircraft on final had to go around while they regained control.

Narrative

Single engine taxi due to lengthy taxi delays created by passing thunderstorm. Delays for arrival and departure due to thundershowers that just passed overhead. Holding short of Runway 22 on Foxtrot; received clearance to cross 22 on F join Taxiway E; expedite crossing traffic on 1.5 mile final. Power on engine one was brought up and the nose of the aircraft started forward and then started to skip/skid towards the right at an aggressive pace. Captain retarded the thrust added full left tiller and I advised Ground we had to stop. Aircraft was brought under control and stopped across the runway hold line. Ground was advised. Although nothing we did violated FAA/AIM regulations; an aircraft on approach was sent around and Ground was upset with us. The reason for the skidding is suspected to be standing water on a black top non grooved pavement with rubber from aircraft tires since this is a runway turn off. Use of less thrust single engine taxi in this case would of prevented this; but the expedite issuance by ATC for the landing aircraft created a 'need' to power up and get across the runway mind process.

Second reporter narrative

I was unable to correct right turn with nose gear steering so stopped aircraft before exiting taxiway and had First Officer tell Ground we had to stop.
