A C172 private pilot reported a close encounter with an obstreperous radio equipped skydiver near LHM.

Narrative

While flying toward midfield at 2;300 FT; a skydiver with a radio started shouting out instructions for me to get out of the way of his jump. There were at least 6 or 7 other planes in the pattern since it was a nice sunny day in Lincoln. While flying past midfield now at 2;000 FT; and flying toward the city; the skydiver started yelling instructions to me; even though I was flying toward the city where there can't be skydiving. I requested traffic advisories from the other pilots and they confirmed I was in the right.I entered the 45 for left traffic to Runway 15; when to my left I saw a skydiver at a distance of about 1;000 FT; in my opinion too close for comfort. The skydiver was yelling instructions; while other pilots in the pattern were telling him he was completely off base because he was diving way too close to the airport when numerous planes were in the non towered airport pattern. The skydiver became upset and started mouthing off at other pilots as well.If I knew skydiving took place so close to the airport I would not fly into LHM. There is a warning of skydiving on the AFD and I was also warned by NORCAL about skydivers on the east side of the field. But; once again; [these skydivers were] WAY too close to the runway. I will better prepare next time and completely avoid airports with skydivers present.
