UNAUTH PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE.

Narrative

IN 8/88 I MADE A VFR FLT FROM CORSICANA; TX; TO COS IN AN SMA WITH MY FAMILY. AFTER LNDG TO REFUEL AT PUEBLO; CO (45 MIN RESERVE) I FLEW TO MY DEST OF COS VFR--A DISTANCE OF APPROX 33 NM AT 8500-6700'. I TOLD THE PUEBLO CTLR OF MY DEST BEFORE DEP. I MONITORED ATIS. I MONITORED APCH FOR COS. DUE TO A FLY-IN; RADIO TFC WAS HVY AND IT TOOK GREATER THAN 5 MINS TO CONTACT APCH. BY THE TIME I WAS IDENTED ON RADAR (MODE C) I WAS NOT ONLY INSIDE THE TRSA; BUT ALSO INSIDE THE ATA. INITIAL ATTEMPTS AT CALL UP WERE OUTSIDE BOTH THE TRSA AND ATA; BUT TIME LAPSE ALLOWED A TRAVEL OF AT LEAST 7 NM; POSSIBLY 13 NM INTO CTLED AIRSPACE. TO MY KNOWLEDGE; THERE WAS NO DISRUPTION OF TFC; AS I WAS ROUTED DIRECTLY TO RWY 30. AT THE TIME OF CONTACT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN 3-5 NM E OF THE ARPT (WHICH I HAD NOT LOCATED UNTIL AFTER RADAR CONTACT AND VECTOR TO 30) AND AT AN ALT OF 27000' MGL. THOUGH VIS WAS GENERALLY GOOD; A LIGHT SHOWER WAS IN PROGRESS. COCKPIT INTERFERENCE WAS COMPLICATED BY A PAX WITH MOTION SICKNESS AND VOMITING. NAV FROM PUEBLO TO COS WAS ALONG THE 328 DEG R OFF (FROM) PUEBLO (116.7). CROSS REF WAS CHKED WITH THE PETEY NDB (407). AT THE TIME OF INITIAL ATTEMPTS AT CALL UP; PETEY WAS A BEARING OF 50-60 DEGS TO THE LEFT OF MY HDG; AND SHOULD HAVE PLACED ME CLR OF THE TRSA. ADDITIONAL COMPLICATIONS: TRSA NOT INDICATED ON WAC; ONLY ON MY SECTIONAL (WAC EXPIRED). A) SELF CORRECTION: 1) EARLIER CALL IN; 2) DOUBLE CHK CURRENCY OF CHARTS (TRSA; ARSA; TCA); 3) DECREASE CABIN CONFUSION (?); AND 4) CIRCUMNAV TRSA; ARSA; TCA UNTIL RADIO CONTACT MADE. B) FAA ACTIONS: 1) INCLUDE ALL INFO ON ALL CHARTS; AND 2) INCREASE CTLRS/FREQS DURING HVY TFC PERIODS.
