Synopsis

ACR LGT UNDER GUIDANCE OF GND MARSHALLER WINGTIP STRUCK GND VEHICLE WHILE PARKING.

Narrative

ON ARR AT GATE RDU; LEFT WING #3 LED CAME IN CONTACT WITH A CATERING TRUCK. APCHING LEAD-IN LINE; PARKING AREA APPEARED TO BE CLEAR OF OBSTACLES AND CAPT MANEUVERED ACFT ONTO LEAD-IN LINE. GUIDEMAN WAS IN POS AND GUIDING ACFT INTO THE GATE USING ORANGE WANDS AND APPROVED HAND SIGNALS. ABOUT 1/2-WAY IN; ON YELLOW GUIDE-LINE; GUIDEMAN MOTIONED TOWARD RIGHT WING-WALKER AND CAPT SLOWED ACFT TO A NEAR STOP. NO OBSTACLES WERE NOTED. WITH GUIDEMAN CONTINUING TO SIGNAL US IN; WE CONTINUED AT A VERY SLOW SPD TOWARD THE GATE. WHEN STOP SIGNAL WAS GIVEN; CAPT SMOOTHLY APPLIED BRAKES. JUST WHEN STOPPED AN UNUSUAL BUMP WAS FELT AND NOTED BY MYSELF AND CAPT. WE AGREED THAT IT WAS PROBABLY AN IMPERFECTION IN THE CONCRETE; A BUMP OR PERHAPS A SMALL OBJECT IN FRONT OF THE TIRE. WHILE DEPLANING A PAS NOTED TO A F/A THAT OUR LEFT WING HAD COME IN CONTACT WITH A CATERING TRUCK. I OVERHEARD THIS AND IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED THE CAPT AND PROCEEDED TO THE CATERING TRUCK TO IDENT THE DRIVER AND CHK FOR DAMAGE OF THE AIRPLANE. TRUCK WAS FOUND APPROX 5-10' FORWARD OF THE LEFT WING AND THE DRIVER WAS READING WHAT APPEARED TO BE A NEWSPAPER. I TOOK HIS NAME AND INFORMED HIM OF WHAT HAD OCCURRED. DAMAGE FOUND WAS A DENT ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THE #3 LED. MAINT WAS NOTIFIED BY THE F/E.
