2 SMA ACFT RETURNING FROM TRAINING FLT HAVE NMAC.

Narrative

WE WERE COMING FROM MISSION PEAK TOWARDS LESLIE SALT FOR LNDG AT PAO. UPON SEEING OTHER ACFT PLT TOOK EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID COLLISION. AFTER AVOIDING ACFT MAINTAINED PRESENT HDG AND THEN MADE A RIGHT 360 DEG SO AS NOT TO CREATE A FURTHER HAZARD. WE CALLED PAO AND PROCEEDED TO FLY TO PAO FOR LNDG. THE OTHER PLTS IN THE OTHER ACFT INQUIRED OVER FREQ WHERE WE WERE LNDG BECAUSE HE FELT WE BUZZED HIM INTENTIONALLY. BACK ON THE GND IN PAO ALL 4 PLTS AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE PAO FLYING CLUB CONVENED TO DISCUSS THE SITUATION. THE OTHER ACFT'S PIC; AN INSTRUCTOR (WHO WAS APPARENTLY ENGAGED IN INSTRUMENT TRNING); ACCUSED US OF BUZZING HIM INTENTIONALLY. WE MADE IT CLEAR TO HIM WE WERE RETURNING FROM A TRNING FLT DSNDING TO OUR RPTING POINT. WE WERE MONITORING 3-5 OTHER ACFT IN THE AREA AND DID NOT SEE THEIR ACFT UNTIL WE WERE UPON THEM WHEN WE THEN TOOK IMMEDIATE ACTION. WE APOLOGIZED FOR SCARING THEM AND REAFFIRMED THAT THE INCIDENT WAS IN NO WAY INTENTIONAL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 95976: THE SUN WAS PROBABLY A FACTOR IN US SEEING HIM ALONG WITH THE HAZE. THE SUNOL AREA HAD SCATTERED CLOUDS.
