An EMB145 crew rejected a takeoff below 80 KTS when the aircraft filled with smoke.

Narrative

I was pilot monitoring on an Embraer 145. Our flight departed the gate and taxied to the runway where we completed all checklist items normally. We were cleared for takeoff on Runway 05. During our takeoff roll; after takeoff power was set; and prior to 80 KTS; the cockpit began filling with smoke. We aborted the takeoff and exited the runway. I informed the Tower that we aborted the takeoff; that we had smoke in the cockpit and required ARFF assistance. The Captain stopped the airplane on the taxiway. The Flight Attendant then called and informed us that the cabin was filled with smoke. He stated that the passengers needed to be evacuated immediately from the airplane. After the Captain talked with the Flight Attendant; I informed the Tower that we needed to evacuate the aircraft. The Tower told us to make a right turn onto the taxiway and we were safe to evacuate there. At this point the fire trucks had reached the aircraft. We executed a ground evacuation assisted by the Fire Department. Once the main cabin door and galley service door were opened the smoke began to dissipate from the cabin. Firemen assisted passengers at both doors as they exited the aircraft. Because of the assistance of the firemen the evacuation was very organized. The people were kept together and under a watchful eye in case anyone needed immediate medical assistance. No injuries were reported at that time. Airport buses arrived to transport the passengers back to the terminal.
