A military training flight operating from RAF Kinloss crashed into the sea, resulting in no survivors among the seven crew members.

What happened

During a local training mission conducted for the 201st Squadron, an aircraft flying out of RAF Kinloss lost control while maneuvering. The flight was in the process of performing its final turn to align with the approach path when the loss of control occurred. Shortly after this maneuver, the plane impacted the sea at a distance of approximately 8 miles from the coast.

There were no survivors of the accident. The impact resulted in seven fatalities among the crew members on board. The aircraft was completely destroyed upon hitting the water.

The investigation into the incident noted that the loss of control occurred during the transition to the approach path. The crash took place during the approach phase of flight.

Probable cause

The aircraft went out of control during a turning maneuver while attempting to join the approach path.
