What happened
While performing a flight from Negombo to Karachi, the crew encountered mechanical difficulties that necessitated an unplanned diversion. The aircraft was being repositioned back to the Netherlands for scheduled maintenance work.
During the approach to Dabolim Airport, the aircraft descended to an altitude of approximately 300 meters. At this stage of the flight, the plane became uncontrollable and impacted the ground in the Vasco da Gama area, situated close to the threshold of runway 26.
The accident resulted in a total of eight fatalities. Initially, four crew members sustained serious injuries, while the remaining four died at the scene. Tragically, all four survivors succumbed to their injuries the following day.
Findings
- The flight was diverted from its original route due to technical problems encountered during the transit from Negombo.
- The loss of control occurred during the final approach phase at a low altitude.
