Narrative
Upon entering the [aircraft] from the jetbridge; I noticed a foul odor in the forward galley and cockpit. APU Bleed Air and Pack 1 were turned off. The smell dissipated. There were no previous logbook write-ups for similar issues. While performing the walkaround I noticed the PC Air was hooked up; and we continued to use that for cabin climate control. The FO (First Officer) and I discussed the odor issue and company protocol. We elected to minimize use of the APU and continued our [preparation].We experienced a strong foul odor during takeoff and climb. We referenced the FOM and FCOM (Flight Crew Operations Manual) 2 odor isolation guidance. I selected PACK 1 off and closed the crossbleed valve as per the procedure. As time went on; I continued to smell the odor; though not as strong as the takeoff and initial climb. Following a restroom break; I returned to the flight deck and the smell was very apparent. The FO (First Officer) and I discussed our condition; options and symptoms; and [queried] the cabin crew. We decided it was safe to continue to our destination. The aircraft was written up for cabin odors and ZZZ Tech Ops met the aircraft on arrival.
