Synopsis
CRJ-900 flight crew reported they received FADEC Fault messages during their initial climbout followed by a right engine flameout. As they returned to land the engine restarted.
Narrative
On day four of our trip on leg four of five we were departing ZZZ to ZZZ1. The weather was finally relatively clear around ZZZ after a large rain system. ZZZ was departing to the south and departure was vectoring us around the field on the west side to join the ZZZZZ SID. Just through 10000 ft. we received an R FADEC (Full Authority Digital Electronic Control) 1 Fault Status Message. Knowing that the aircraft normally can be dispatched with that message we were going to continue to ZZZ1. Just as the First Officer (FO) was opening the Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) just to review the exact meaning of that status message we received R FADEC 2 Fault. I began checking the engine indications and noticed some instability in the gauges. Just then we received an R FADEC Caution message. This is when the R engine gauges began spooling down and the FO called R Engine Flameout. We [requested handling priority] and advised ATC that our plan was to return to ZZZ. Just as we were about to decide which QRH we were going to need to start with one of the FADEC channels came back and an auto-relight was begun and was successful. We left the QRH open to the R FADEC Caution QRH as that was the most likely and pressing malfunction on the way back in. We told the passengers that we would be returning to ZZZ for a maintenance issue and advised the Flight Attendants (FA's) there would be no bracing. We were able to return to ZZZ with both engines operating for a normal landing.
Second reporter narrative
Climbing through around 11000 ft. on the ZZZZZ departure; an R (Full Authority Digital Electronic Control) FADEC FAULT 1 status message. As I was reviewing the meaning of the status message an R FADEC FAULT 2 status message appeared. Shortly after the R FADEC caution message appeared and shortly after an R ENG FLAMEOUT Msg appeared. I called the right engine flame out message. The engine indications were decreasing and I remember seeing the oil pressure flashing red on the R Engine. I immediately [requested priority handling]. Captain assigned pilot flying duties and then I searched for the appropriate (Quick Reference Checklist) QRC/QRH (Quick Reference Handbook). While I was looking up the R ENG FLAMEOUT amber message in the QRH there was an auto relight and the right engine normalized. We returned to the field and landed ILS XXC and taxied back to the gate.
