Synopsis
CRJ-900 air carrier flight crew reported a cockpit window failure during descent. The Captain requested priority handling with ATC and landed safely.
Narrative
Noticed my windshield started to delaminate. Turned off windshield heat at the same time my FO (First Officer) was given descent via the arrival. I sent dispatch an ACARS Msg about my windshield delaminating. I told the flight attendants about the delimitation. I remembered that there was a QRH check list but was difficult to locate. But no [urgency advised] to FA (Flight Attendant) and passengers. FO continued descent . We accomplished in-range above the line checklist above 18000ft then below the line at 13000ft. Then shortly after 13000ft above 12000ft outer-pane windshield spider cracked and a 3-4inch hole popped in the outer pane near heat element. Pieces of glass from the pane blew off. I [requested priority handling with] ATC; But I did not communicate priority to the FA's or the passengers. then we had aft cargo door caution msg associated with prox system fault 2 status msg. We attempted to do a QRH for the caution msg. But then it disappeared. Then it appeared intermittently a couple of times. Then the right aft emergency exit door caution msg appeared then it disappeared. Then the FA's called about a loud whistling noise. Checked pressurization on the EICAS for normal pressure. All indications were normal. We were now at 7000 ft and preparing to land and I didn't want the FA or passengers to have anymore concerns about our flight. We landed with out further incident. Emergency trucks were dispatched by Tower but not required. We taxied to the gate with no assistance.Revise location of Windshield delaminate for QRH to make it easier to reference.
