Synopsis

Air carrier Captain reported a main gear tire failure during lift off. The flight returned and landed safely.

Narrative

While enroute from ZZZ-ZZZ1 ATC notified crew that upon takeoff three reports were given seeing debris comer off the nose gear of the aircraft. Contacted dispatch. Decision made to return to ZZZ. [Requested priority handling]; informed ATC of situation. Notified flight attendants of emergency. Made passenger announcement of return to ZZZ. Provided ATC with fuel and souls onboard. Planned landing for [Runway] XXR with eventualities of nose gear failure upon landing. Landed aircraft and stopped on runway without incident. Airport Rescue and Firefighting inspected aircraft and reported that the nose gear appeared undamaged; however; the right inboard main tire was completely delaminated and still inflated. No sign of fluid leakage or strut damage. Taxied aircraft to gate. Inspected aircraft with maintenance and also discovered damage to the right flap. Aircraft removed from service and passengers were deplaned. No one injured in event.After return to ZZZ and inspection; cause of damage was due to a failed right main gear inboard tire. Suspect tire delaminated at approx 120Kts while on takeoff without any noticeable indications and debris from tire failure damaged the right flap.
