Synopsis

A320 Captain reported an ENG 2 CLOG ECAM followed by a loud bang and ENG 2 STALL ECAM. Crew diverted and shut down engine after landing.

Narrative

During flight from ZZZ to ZZZ1 an ecam alert ENG 2 CLOG was presented during Cruise; without observing any additional alerts; we as crew decided to check any information in the manual ; then we started preparing an escape route in secondary flight plan; 5 minutes after the initial ECAM a loud bang was heard and and ENG 2 STALL ECAM appeared; immediately Flight Attendant crew called to cockpit to advise an explosion was heard and felt; ENG 2 STALL procedure was done; and Purser informed to prepare cabin; ATC was notified of nature of our situation and we diverted no ZZZ2 being the closest airport and suitable for the failure. We [requested priority handling]; APU was started to avoid any excessive electric and pneumatic workload of ENG 1; ENG 2 was tried to be used with caution; resulting in another explosion and high n2 vibrations and abnormal parameters; after landing in Runway XX ZZZ2 we decided to shut down eng 2 and continued to a gate waiting for instructions.Visual inspection after landing revealed smoke/burnt traces or marking in the under side of the right wing; and on the eng 2 outlet
