Air carrier Captain reported a main tire failure during takeoff.
Synopsis
Air carrier Captain reported a main tire failure during takeoff.
Narrative
During our normal takeoff from RWY XXR at ZZZ we experienced an increase in vibration at V1. Once reaching rotation speed I initiated a standard rotation with no abnormalities. Aircraft climbed out normally. We received a YD2 INOP status message as well as a red DCP (Display Control Panel) flag on PFD1 (Primary Flight Display). Gear and flaps where retracted at the normal scheduled times with no incident. After we reached a safe altitude I called for the appropriate QRH's. Once completed we discussed the possibility of a tire failure. I messaged dispatch and the First Officer worked with ATC to have ZZZ do a runway inspection. Once we had confirmation from ZZZ airport operations that debris was found; I relayed this to Dispatch and Maintenance Control. The call was made to air return to ZZZ. We where cleared back to ZZZ. Dispatch release was sent for the updated destination. We [requested priority handling] with ATC to have ARFF (Airport Rescue and Firefighting) standby for landing. I called the Flight Attendants and briefed them. Decent and approach phases of flight where all normal. At touchdown we felt a moderate vibration after the main landing gear settled. Rollout and exiting the runway was normal. Once clear of the runway ARFF did a sweep of the Aircraft and confirmed the right inboard tire had failed. We also received a Flaps Fault status message. We taxied under our own power and terminated the flight at the gate. Cause: Tire failure.
