Synopsis

CRJ-700 Captain reported shattered windshield during cruise. Flight descended and continued to destination.

Narrative

Flight ABCD ZZZ-ZZZ1; in level flight at F220; we received a R WINDSHIELD HEAT CAUTION. I gave the radios to the FO (First Officer); and ran the QRH. When turning the right WS heat from low to off; we heard a loud pop and the wind shield shattered. Before things got worse; I thought it would be best to descend to 10k and request priority handling with ATC. once down to 10k; we slowed to 250 kts.; and I saw pressurization wasn't an issue; we ran the cracked windshield non-EICAS QRH procedure. By this time we were below 8000; slowed to 205 per the QRH. I let the FAs (flight attendants) know what was going on and they heard the POP in the back; briefed them and all 4 team members were on the same page. No one was injured or in imminent danger; so I didn't think it was imperative to make an announcement to the passengers; we ran the flight just as we would in normal conditions to keep the cabin calm. Informed Dispatch and they asked about going back to ZZZ. Before we were able to calculate fuel; they said to disregard and continue to ZZZ1. Landing was uneventful; and after we were on the ground; we finished the cracked windshield QRH (confirmation the delta P" was at 0). Taxi in was uneventful and after disembarking passengers; called Dispatch; Maintenance; Customer Service; Chief Pilot; etc…Cause: Occurred due to complying with the QRH checklist with the caution message that was received."
