ACR B-727 EXPERIENCES OIL LOSS IN #1 ENG. SHUTS DOWN THE ENG IN FLT.
Narrative
HALFWAY BTWN MYY AND GDL (ENRTE TO PVR) THE SO RPTED THE #1 ENG OIL PRESSURE WAS DECREASING AT AN ALARMING RATE. AT 1 GALLON REMAINING (4 GALLONS PREVIOUS); THE CAPT ELECTED TO SHUT DOWN #1 ENG AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE. AFTER COMPLETING THE ENG/FAILURE/FIRE CHKLIST NO OIL REMAINED IN #1 (NO FIRE INDICATED). THE CAPT ELECTED TO CHANGE COURSE AND LAND IN MONTEREY. AFTER SOME DISCUSSION AND COM TO DISPATCH IT WAS DECIDED THAT MCALLEN; TX; (MFE) WAS TO BE A BETTER ALTERNATE (POOR GND SUPPORT AND FIRE RESCUE AND LANGUAGE BARRIERS IN MEXICO BEING CITED AS A FACTOR) WHILE STILL AT CRUISE ALT (NOW FL250 TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE AIRSPD/PERFORMANCE). CURRENT MFE WX WAS RPTED BY MFE ATIS AT A 200 FT CEILING AND 1/2 MI VISIBILITY. MANY FACTORS WERE CONSIDERED AND IT WAS THEN DECIDED TO PROCEED TO IAH AND LAND. CORPUS CHRISTI WAS TO BE USED IF THE SIT DETERIORATED (THE ACFT PERFORMANCE WAS FINE; THE OTHER 2 ENGS WERE GOOD. HOUSTON HAD THE LONGEST RWYS AND BEST GND SUPPORT). WE PERFORMED THE APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS AND LANDED IN HOUSTON WITHOUT INCIDENT. DURING THE POSTFLT WALK-AROUND; IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE #1 ENG HAD A SEVERE OIL LEAK.
