FLC OF AN LGT LINED UP WITH A SIMILAR HDG RWY AT THE WRONG ARPT.

Narrative

APCH TO RWY 10-08 AT SJU; GIVEN LOWER ALT TO 1500 FT AND INTERCEPT LOC RWY 10; CAPT CALLED ARPT IN SIGHT; HOWEVER WE WERE LINED UP ON SOME OTHER RWY WNW OF SJU. WE WERE GIVEN VISUAL APCH CLR AND DSNDED TO 1000 FT. AS I RECOGNIZED THE ARPT I WAS LOOKING AT WAS NOT THE SJU COMPLEX; I ELECTED NOT TO DSND BELOW 1000 FT AND CALLED OUT TO THE CAPT THAT I DID NOT HAVE THE ARPT IN SIGHT AS THE CAPT DID. THE FMC APPEARED TO HAVE 10 SPLIT RWY IN SIGHT. THE CAPT DIRECTED ME TO FURTHER ALMOST ALIGNED WITH THE LOC BUT L OF COURSE WITH THE OTHER. WRONG. RWY DRIFT TO OUR L. AS I DID NOT HAVE TO CORRECT TO THE S TO ALIGN ON RWY 10 AT SJU; TWR CALLED US THAT THE ARPT WAS AT 1 O'CLOCK 4 MI; I THEN PICKED UP THE COMPLEX AND CONTINUED THE APCH. APPARENTLY (ACR Y) 757 LANDED ON THE WRONG RWY WRONG ARPT LAST WEEK. CAPT THOUGHT I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE BOGUS ARPT AND RWY WNW OF SJU; I WASN'T. TWR ASKED US TO CALL UPON ARR; DISCUSSION ENTAILED OUR POSITIONING ON FINAL APCH; AND GAVE US THE HEADS UP TO PREVIOUS (ACR Y) INCIDENT. EVENT WAS NOTED. ATC SAID THERE WAS NO RPT TO FOLLOW. LESSONS WERE LEARNED BY ALL; BOTTOM LINE; NEVER ASSUME. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS; SPEAK UP AS WE DID IN THE COCKPIT IF THE BIG PICTURE IS NOT WHAT SHOULD BE. HAVE A TEAM EFFORT TO CONFIRM AND VERIFY AS WE DID BEFORE IT GETS TOO LATE.
