Synopsis

A DISPUTE BTWN MAINT PERSONNEL IS CONCLUDED AGAINST THE RPTR'S WISHES.

Narrative

A MAINT CTL ORDER WAS ISSUED ON MAY/FRI/95 TO PLACE THE STABILIZER TRIM PORTION OF THE AUTOPLT SYS ON A B727 ON MEL 34-00-LLM; DUE TO A CRUISE TRIM MOTOR BEING CHANGED THE NIGHT BEFORE IN DTW. THE MAINT CTLR X ISSUED THE MAINT CTL ORDER BECAUSE OF A 'QUESTIONABLE' CONDITION (HIS WORDS). THE R AND E ON DAY SHIFT CHKED THE AUTOPLT SYS OUT TO COMPLY WITH THE MAINT CTL ORDER; HOWEVER; ALL OF HIS TESTS PROVED A RELIABLE AUTOPLT SYS. THE R AND E AND HIS LEAD MECH TRIED TO EXPLAIN THIS TO X BUT X GOT EXTREMELY DEFENSIVE AND DIRECTED THEM TO COMPLY WITH THE MAINT CTL ORDER -- THEY REFUSED. AT THIS POINT; X CALLED MY SUPERIOR; Y; WHO BASICALLY ORDERED ME TO COMPLY WITH THE MAINT CTL ORDER; AND TO GET THE ACFT OUT OF DTW. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THE R AND E LEAD'S CONCERNS ABOUT PLACING A WORKING AUTOPLT SYS ON DEFERRAL; AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT 34-00-LLM PROCS WERE NOT APPLICABLE TO THIS SIT. ALL OF THIS TO NO AVAIL -- Y TOLD ME TO COMPLY WITH THE MAINT CTL DIRECTIVE ('MUST DO'). AT THIS POINT; I DEFERRED THE AUTOPLT PER 34-00-LLM. THIS WAS DONE UNDER DURESS ON MY PART; AS I AGREED WITH THE R AND E AND LEAD. ALSO; LEAD MECH WAS DIRECTED TO TURN IN A WRITTEN RPT TO Y ON WHY HE WOULD NOT COMPLY WITH THE MAINT CTL ORDER. NOTE: ACFT DID NOT ARRIVE DTW WITH AN INBOUND WRITE-UP ON THE AUTOPLT.
