Synopsis

THE FLC FAILED TO NOTICE THE WT AND BAL USED WAS FOR ANOTHER B727-200 AND THEREFORE HAD A 1200 LB DIFFERENT BASIC OPERATING WT FROM THE AIRPLANE THEY WERE FLYING.

Narrative

THIS EVENT OCCURRED DURING PREFLT IN SAV. THIS FLT WAS SCHEDULED FOR 2 LEGS (SAV-ATL-MEM). THE FLT OPERATED AS SCHEDULED. AFTER COMPLETING THE FIRST LEG AND WHILE ON THE GND IN ATL; I DISCOVERED THAT THE FIRST LEG'S WT AND BAL WAS PREPARED FOR A DIFFERENT TAIL NUMBER (SAME MODEL OF ACFT) THAN THE ACTUAL ACFT FLOWN. THE WT AND BAL USED INDICATED NXXB. WE WERE ACTUALLY OPERATING IN NXXX. BOTH ACFT ARE B727-200'S. THIS WT AND BAL WAS PREPARED IN SAV BY RAMP PERSONNEL. TKOF GROSS WT WAS LISTED AS 121850 LBS. BECAUSE THE WT AND BAL WAS COMPLETED FOR THE WRONG TAIL NUMBER; THE WT AND BAL USED REFLECTED APPROX 1200 LBS LOWER THAN ACTUAL TKOF GROSS WT. THE DIFFERENCE WAS CAUSED BY DIFFERENT BASIC OPERATING WTS FOR EACH ACFT. NO ADVERSE CONDITIONS WERE NOTED IN FLT. A WT AND BAL WITH THE CORRECT TAIL NUMBER WAS COMPLETED FOR THE SECOND AND LAST LEG (ATL-MEM). THIS EVENT INADVERTENTLY OCCURRED AFTER 4 DIFFERENT PERSONNEL (PREPARER; VERIFIER; FE AND MYSELF; THE CAPT) MISSED THE FACT THAT THE WRONG TAIL NUMBER WAS ON THE WT AND BAL. I DISCUSSED THIS MATTER WITH THE COMPANY'S FLT SAFETY DEPT AND FILED A COMPANY FLT SAFETY RPT SO THAT THAT DEPT COULD TAKE INTERNAL ACTION. I DISCUSSED THIS EVENT WITH THE REST OF MY CREW TO SHOW THE ERROR IN OUR WAYS AND PREVENT ANY ERRORS OF THIS NATURE IN THE FUTURE.
