Narrative

ACR X PUSHED BACK FROM EL PASO INTL GATE XX. AFTER ENG START THE CREW REQUESTED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FROM GND CTL. GND CTL ISSUED UNRESTR CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 26L. DUE TO RAMP CONGESTION AND ACFT POS I MADE A R TURN OUT TO TXWY F; FOLLOWED BY A R TURN TO TXWY E; THEN A PARTIAL R TURN TO TXWY G-RAMP TO GET TO TXWY L. AFTER ALREADY ESTABLISHED ON TXWY E EBOUND THE GND CTLR SAID TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY E (RWY 8R APCH AREA). APPARENTLY THERE WAS ACR Y IN POS TO TKOF ON RWY 26L AND THE TWR HAD TO CANCEL THEIR TKOF CLRNC. I WAS AWARE OF THE CAUTION NOTE FOR TXWY E; BUT I DID HAVE UNRESTR CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 26L. GND CTL TOLD US TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY E; BUT ONLY AFTER WE HAD TURNED ONTO IT. WE EXPEDITIOUSLY CLRED TXWY E AND PROCEEDED TO RWY 26L. A MORE DETAILED TAXI CLRNC WOULD HAVE HELPED TO AVOID THIS PROB. INFO ON THE ATIS IN ADDITION TO THE NOTAM WOULD HELP. ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM TXWY E IS LABELED AS BOTH A TXWY AND A STOPWAY. THIS CAN LEAD TO CONFUSION; WHEN IS IT WHAT? RWY 22 STOPWAY IS ONLY LABELED A STOPWAY.
