RUDDER TRAVEL VERY RESTR ON LNDG. USE OF NOSEWHEEL STEERING RESULTED IN JERKY MOTION. POSSIBLE CONNECTION BTWN NOSEWHEEL STEERING SENSOR; RUDDER PEDAL STEERING AND FLT RUDDER CAPABILITY.

Narrative

RUDDER TRAVEL VERY RESTR ON LNDG. WINDS WERE LIGHT AND AUTOBRAKES KEPT ACFT TRACKING ON CTRLINE. WHILE TAXIING TO GATE; TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED THAT THE RUDDER WAS IN FACT JAMMED IN THE NEUTRAL (FAIRED) POS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR CAPT FIRST NOTICED A STIFFNESS IN RUDDER TRAVEL ON SHORT APCH TO LNDG. WITH A LIGHT XWIND HE TRIED TO STRAIGHTEN THE NOSE WITH RUDDERS AND FOUND THEM UNUSUALLY STIFF. HE HAD SELECTED MEDIUM AUTOBRAKES BECAUSE OF LCL RWY CONDITIONS AND THE AUTOBRAKES TRACKED TRUE DOWN THE RWY ON ROLLOUT. WHEN THE AUTOBRAKES WERE DISCONNECTED AND THE RPTR STARTED STEERING WITH THE NOSEWHEEL STEERING HE NOTICED THE STEERING WAS JERKY. DURING TAXI; THE CAPT HAD THE FO TAXI THE ACFT WHILE HE SELECTED THE FLT CTL PAGE AND ATTEMPTED TO DISPLACE THE RUDDER PEDALS. NOT ONLY WOULD THE RUDDER PEDALS NOT MOVE OFF NEUTRAL; THE INDICATOR DIDN'T MOVE EITHER. THE ACFT WAS WRITTEN UP FOR BOTH DISCREPANCIES AND TAKEN OTS. AT FIRST THE NOSEWHEEL STEERING ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED AND APPARENTLY THAT DIDN'T FIX THE PROB. THEN MAINT REPLACED A STEERING SENSOR AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER PROBS.
