NMAC BTWN A B757 ON A VISUAL APCH AND AN F8 CRUSADER ON APCH UNDER A LOSS COM; OR TWR CONTACT CONDITION. THE B757 CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA AND SUBSEQUENTLY LANDED WITHOUT TWR CLRNC.

Narrative

ON BASE TURN TO RWY 20R BNA; WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH BY APCH CTL. THEY ALSO INFORMED US OF A CRUSADER ACFT THEY WERE CTLING TO OUR R. I SIGHTED THE CRUSADER LOW AND TO OUR R. APCH CTL WAS GIVING THE CRUSADER SUGGESTED TURNS AWAY FROM US; HOWEVER THE CRUSADER DID NOT APPEAR TO BE RESPONDING. TURNING FINAL THE CRUSADER PASSED LOW AND BEHIND US; HOWEVER; WE GOT AN RA ON OUR TCASII WITH A RED ZONE 2000-4000 FT DOWN ON OUR VSI AND 'TFC; CLB' COMMAND. I TOLD THE COPLT TO ADD PWR WHICH HE DID; AND WE CLBED AWAY FROM THE CRUSADER. APCH CTL WAS STILL TRYING TO TURN THE CRUSADER AWAY FROM US BUT I HEARD NO RESPONSE. I STAYED ON APCH CTL FREQ TO MONITOR WHAT THE CRUSADER WAS DOING; SO AS TO AVOID ANY FURTHER CONFLICT. WE RESUMED OUR APCH AND RECAPTURED THE APCH PROFILE TO RWY 20R. WE LANDED UNEVENTFULLY AT BNA AND THEN CONTACTED THE TWR WHO ACKNOWLEDGED THE CONFUSION AND SAID THERE WAS 'NO PROB' WITH OUR LNDG. I CALLED APCH CTL WHEN WE GOT TO THE GATE AND THEY STATED THE CRUSADER HAD A RADIO FAILURE. I TOLD THEM I WAS FILING A NASA RPT.
