B727 CARGO CREW DECLARED EMER WHEN SMOKE AND FUMES ENTERED THE COCKPIT.
Narrative
AFTER TKOF FROM LAX WE SMELLED FUMES AROUND 6000 FT MSL. DONNED OXYGEN MASK WHEN THE ODOR WORSENED AND SMOKE WAS VISIBLE. PERFORMED THE SMOKE/FUMES CHKLIST AS WE EVALUATED THE PROB. WHEN THE SMOKE AND FUMES DID NOT SUBSIDE WE DECLARED AN EMER AND NOTIFIED ATC OF OUR PROB. WHILE BEING VECTORED WE BRIEFLY OVERSHOT OUR ASSIGNED HDG. HDG WAS IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED BACK TO OUR ASSIGNED HDG. HDG DEV WAS MADE WHILE WE WERE RUNNING OUR CHKLIST WITH OXYGEN MASK ON AND USING OVERHEAD SPEAKERS. HEADSETS ARE NORMALLY USED. WHEN COMMUNICATING USING THE OXYGEN MASK AND OVERHEAD SPEAKERS COMS ARE CONSIDERABLY REDUCED. AS WE WERE VECTORED BACK FOR AN APCH WE FELT LIGHTHEADED. CONTINUED WITH APCH AND ON FINAL DETERMINED WE WERE HIGH. ELECTED TO GAR FOR A L DOWNWIND FOR VECTORS FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 25L AT LAX. AFTER LNDG WE STOPPED ON TXWY A PARALLEL TO RWY 25L; AND SHUT DOWN ENGS. WE EVACED THE ACFT VIA THE ESCAPE ROPES. SINCE WE ALL FELT LIGHTHEADED AND WOOZY AND THE JUMPSEATER SUSTAINED ROPE BURNS DURING THE EVAC; WE REQUESTED MEDICAL ATTN AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO CENTENNIAL MEDICAL CLINIC.
