B757 FLC LANDS WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC. UNAUTH LNDG AT ORD. FLC DEV FROM THE STABILIZED APCH CONCEPT DURING THE IAP ILS APCH PROC.

Narrative

APCHING CHICAGO ORD ARPT FROM THE W; EVERYTHING SEEMED ROUTINE. THE CTLR TOLD US WE WOULD HAVE A 10 MI FINAL FOR RWY 22R; AT THIS TIME ABOUT 15 FLYING MI TO THE ARPT; WE WERE SOMEWHAT HIGH. THE COPLT IMMEDIATELY STARTED SLOWING AND GETTING THE ACFT 'DIRTY;' WHILE EXPRESSING SOME CONCERN ABOUT BEING ABLE TO GET DOWN. AS WE WERE NOT THAT HIGH; I TOLD HIM IT SHOULD BE NO PROB AND STARTED CALLING APPROX ALT ABOVE GS. THE CTLR CLRED US FOR THE APCH AND TOLD US TO CONTACT TWR AT THE MARKER. AT THE MARKER WE WERE ABOUT 500 FT HIGH AND COMING DOWN AT A GOOD RATE; SHORTLY AFTER WE WERE VFR. AT 1000 FT WE WERE 1 DOT HIGH; AND BEFORE REACHING 500 FT WERE ON THE GS AND STABLE. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL AND WE TURNED OFF ON TXWY C; HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 9L-27R. WHEN WE CALLED TWR FOR CLRNC TO CROSS; WE WERE TALKING TO APCH CTL. THAT'S WHEN WE REALIZED WE NEVER SWITCHED TO TWR AND LANDED WITHOUT A CLRNC. THE CALLOUTS WERE MADE AT THE MARKER; 1000 FT AGL AND 500 FT AGL; HOWEVER THEY WERE FOLLOWED BY THE DEV FROM THE GS; AND AT 500 FT 'ON GS.' I WAS TALKING TOO MUCH; AND HAD I JUST STUCK TO THE SOP CALLOUTS; I BELIEVE THIS OVERSIGHT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
