Narrative
WE WERE APCHING ORD ON FLT FROM DTW. THE WX WAS MVFR TO THE BEST OF MY RECOLLECTION. THERE WERE RAIN SHOWERS AT THE ARPT AND THE SURFACES WERE WET. APCH HAD BEEN NOTIFIED THAT WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO ACCEPT A LAHSO CLRNC IF LAHSO WERE ON THE ATIS. AT THE OM WE CONTACTED ORD TWR AND WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 14R TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 9R. WE DECLINED THE LAHSO AND WERE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY ISSUED A GAR STRAIGHT AHEAD CLB TO 4000 FT. THEN WE WERE VECTORED FOR AN ILS APCH TO RWY 9R. ON APCH TO RWY 9R WE EXPERIENCED UNACCEPTABLE CHANGES IN AIRSPD BELOW 500 FT AGL AND IMMEDIATELY INITIATED A GAR. WE WERE THEN VECTORED FOR AN ILS APCH TO RWY 22R AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. FYI; I ROUTINELY DECLINE LAHSO CLRNCS BECAUSE OF THE HAZARDOUS NATURE OF THE CLRNC. I HAVE HAD WHAT IN MY VIEW HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 2 PUNITIVE GARS ASSIGNED AT ORD IN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. THESE OPS ARE INHERENTLY UNSAFE. IF IT IS GOING TO TAKE SHREDDED ALUMINUM AND BODY PARTS ON THE RWYS TO STOP IT; I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT I WILL NOT BE PART OF IT. FIX THE PROB -- NOW. I DO NOT LIKE TO SAY I TOLD YOU SO; BUT I TAKE GOOD NOTES; AND I WILL IF IT BECOMES NECESSARY.
