Narrative
TKOF RWY 27 MEMPHIS INTL. LATEST ATIS GAVE WINDS OF 140 DEGS/6 KTS; LOW LEVEL WINDSHEAR ALERT IN EFFECT. NO OBVIOUS WINDSHEAR PRESENT TO AIRCREW. CLRED FOR TKOF. ONCE AIRBORNE AT APPROX 1000 FT; TWR WAS HEARD ADVISING NEXT ACFT FOR RWY 27 THAT WINDS WERE 90 DEGS 12 KTS; WHICH ARE BEYOND MAX TAILWIND FOR B727. SUSPECT WINDS WERE OBSERVED INCREASING TO OUT OF LIMITS AS THAT ACFT WAS PREPARING TO TAKE RWY. MY ACFT WAS NOT ADVISED OF ANY WINDS NEAR OR OUT OF LIMITS. TKOF WAS NORMAL IN ALL RESPECTS; WITH NO NOTICEABLE WIND EFFECT UPON ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 409641: ON PRE-DEP BRIEFING; DISCUSSED WINDSHEAR PROBABILITY; AND GIVEN LIGHT WINDS AND NO CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY IN VICINITY OF ARPT; WE FELT IT WAS NOT A FACTOR; BUT WOULD REMAIN ALERT FOR ANY CHANGES. TO AVOID A SIMILAR OCCURRENCE; I WILL MAKE IT A STANDARD PRACTICE TO REQUEST WINDS WHEN CLRED FOR TKOF (THOUGH IT IS SOMETIMES NOT PRACTICAL WHEN GIVEN TKOF CLRNC; HEADING TO FLY AT DME FIX; AND TFC; ALL IN ONE SENTENCE; TO ASK FOR ONE MORE PIECE OF INFO).
